A Saturday visit This was recommended to us so booked a table for a Saturday teatime. When we arrived there was only one other table occupied. We had to go to the bar for drinks after sitting for sometime. The food was good, we were a group of 4 and all chose something different and all was reported to be tasty, however the staff could have been more attentive and friendlier.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Lively place, lovely staff, 50/50 with food. Called in with our dogs but the only one dog friendly table in the corner of the bar was occupied so we booked, had a walk round & came back. Prawn cocktail starters were full of water so take it these were frozen prawns but the home made haggis & black pudding bon bons were delicious. 2 of us had the pie & mash which was absolutely beautiful, the meat was so tender and tasty. 2 of us had the gammon but that was barely cooked. Lovely clean place and bubbly staff. Probably a good idea to book ahead as it was really busy.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

I can't recommend it highly enough I first came here a couple of years ago on a horribly wet and miserable day. Today, with my ears ringing from the sound of bagpipes at the Cowal Highland Gathering on a lovely sunny Scottish day, I booked a table for a late lunch. Having found the Lorne lunch combo to be a great deal on my previous visit, I opted for it again. This time, a very tasty BBQ chicken panini (£7.95), with handcut chips (£3) and a small bowl of truly exceptional Broccoli and Stilton soup (£2) washed down with a pot of tea (£3). This was again a great value meal which really did hit the spot. I wasn't going to have a dessert, but the home made 'Cranachan', a Scottish combo of shortbread, cream, honey, oatmeal and a nip of whisky (£9.95) could not be missed. Sensational! Among the specials on offer was a fish and chip 'high tea' for two with a pot of tea for just £25. I wish I'd brought a friend.... Really good WiFi and sparkly clean toilets all add up to the perfect package. I am not at all surprised the Lorne is rated as the number one spot to eat in Dunoon. They do what they do very well, plus the staff are really friendly and helpful. Judging by the birthday party and the constant coming and going, the Lorne is clearly popular with locals and tourists alike. Very highly recommended.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Bad I went here with my family and they seemed very friendly and food was good but then the waitress was passing water to my mum and knocked the beer and it poured all over my grandad and they barely apologised and didn’t even take the charge of. Then we went a second time and the staters was good but the same waitress forgot all of the changes like simple mash to chips then took forever to correct it.And then my pasta was horrible and and only tasted of lemon and salt. Would not recommend.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

The Lorne and Short of It The Lorne serves proper, tasty, home-cooked food. The problem is the prices have clearly been told they’re in a much posher restaurant. The steak pie was genuinely delicious, with a fine puff-pastry hat, but it seemed to have been given a weight loss jab, as it had a rather shy amount of steak underneath. I felt the kitchen could safely have risked another spoonful of the delicious filling. The prawn linguine and lasagne were both very nice too; well cooked, comforting and exactly how Merry Berry would have served them up, had she been in Dunoon for the day. Service was perfectly civil but a little chilly. Not rude, just the sort of welcome that says, “Yes, we have seen you.” Desserts were much more generous, which suggested somebody in the kitchen had finally found the portion scoop. Overall, we enjoyed it. Good food, decent cooking, slightly lofty pricing and service with the warmth of a speaking clock.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Great food and staff Visited The Lorne twice last week whilst in Dunoon. Absolutely loved it both times. The staff are brilliant....friendly, chatty, made everyone feel welcome. The food was delicious and plentiful, can definitely recommend the home made soups ..leek, pea and parmesan was a revelation! Plenty of choices for everyone in our party, the fish and chips and the homemade fishcakes were particular favourites. Good choice of drinks and a good atmosphere. We really enjoyed it.
